Marie est née le 30 mai 1958 à Össjö en Scanie.
Elle
a commencé sa carrière comme chanteuse dans le groupe Strul, puis MaMa's Barn. Mais cela ne lui convenant pas, elle s'est lancée en solo. Et dès ses débuts c'est le succès. Malgré son investissement dans Roxette, elle poursuit parallèlement sa carrière solo avec la sortie en 1992 de Den Ständigan Resan puis en 1996 de I en tid som vår, deux albums toujours en suédois mais qui reflètent toute la sensibilité de l'artiste.
Début 2000, elle sort un Best Of, Äntligen - Marie Fredrikssons Bästa (1984 - 2000), qui sera suivi par une tournée triomphale de l'artiste en Scandinavie. Mais sa carrière est stoppée brutalement par le diagnostic d'une tumeur au cerveau fin 2002. Suivent alors deux années de combat contre la maladie puisqu'elle suit un traitement anti-cancéreux. Elle sort un disque, 
The Change, fin 2004, des compositions plutôt sombres, mais cette fois-ci en anglais.
En 2006, elle nous gratifie d'un nouvel album, des reprises de ses artistes préférés, Min beste vän, à nouveau en suédois, et qui tranche avec son prédécesseur. Une belle manière de fêter sa victoire face à la maladie...
Et en 2007, c'est une nouvelle compilation, cette fois-ci de ballades qui sera publiée.

She was
first the lead singer in a band called Strul, then in the band MaMa's Barn, and finally took her chance as solo singer.
Even after Roxette she never stopped to release solo CD's. So, in 1992, she released Den Ständiga Resan and four years later I en tid som vår, two beautiful albums, written in Swedish.
At the beginning of 2000, she gave us her first Greatest Hits album, Äntligen - Marie Fredrikssons Bästa (1984 - 2000), followed by a successful tour throughout Scandinavia. But her career was brutally stopped in 2002, when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The following two years meant cancer treatment, fight against cancer. At the end of 2004, she released a new album, called The Change, which reflects her fight, and her mood, kind of dark, and this time in English.
But in 2006, she releases a new Swedish album, with covers of her favourites artists. The next year, a new best of is released, containing only her best ballads.
